Dear kindred spirits of the universe,

Here’s bunch of news to entertain you. Firstly we finally have some quality live footage of Infinity Broke playing at the Binic Folk Blues Festival from back in August which Mess and Noise have premiered today – Gallows Queue

We also have the last Infinity Broke show of the year looming. We are very sad to say that it will be the last show for the foreseeable future with Jared on drums. He’s studying like a demon and is too under the pump to play with us next year. He’s one of the best drummers I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with and a top fella to boot so see him and Scott do their tandem throb. It’ll be emotional.

Friday December 12th Good God Small Club (Sydney, NSW)

7.30 pm – 10.00 pm $15 on the door

+ Special guests Sounds Like Sunset

Our Pozible campaign has given Infinity Broke’s collective self-esteem a nice boost. If you want some of the exclusive goodies and haven’t pledged it finishes on November 30th so you might want to get onto that. Thanks to the pledgers we’re going to be able to release our new album on vinyl and CD again. Go here - there’s exclusive stuff on there that I’ve talked about too much already to repeat but you can read about it on the link.

Peter Fenton of Crow infamy and myself have been collaborating for a while, we have a goal of recording an album together once we have enough material. Many long-term listeners will remember the glory days when Crow and Bluebottle Kiss walked side by side on this earth so it may interest some of you. We’re certainly enjoying it. We now have a name for the project: The Tall Grass. We also have a fairly basic Facebook site here

We have a couple of shows coming up

Saturday November 29th Petersham Bowling Club (Sydney, NSW)

8pm $10 – Mark Moldre (3/4 of Infinity Broke play in Mark’s band)

+ The Tall Grass + Peasant Moon

Friday December 19th The Post Office Hotel (Melbourne, VIC)

8pm Free Entry – Steve Kilbey + The Tall Grass + J M S Harrison + Jason Walker and MP

Saturday December 20th The Workers Club (Melbourne, VIC)

15 years on: A tribute to the songs of Glide and William Arthur.

Peter and I are not playing together at this but we are both appearing as guest vocalists celebrating the beautiful songs of the sadly departed William Arthur of Glide.

I will be celebrating 20 years of artistic bloody mindedness with a one off solo trawl, featuring songs from every album I’ve had the pleasure of recording. This being because the first Bluebottle Kiss album Higher up the Firetrails will be 20 years old by the time this tour kicks off. Sheesh. A chance to hear some rare airings.

Fri, Jan 23 – 5 Church Street, Bellingen, NSW

Sat, Jan 24 – The Junk Bar, Brisbane, QLD

Fri, Jan 30 – LongPlay, Melbourne, VIC (Limited Seating)

Sat, Jan 31 – The Bridge Hotel, Castlemaine, VIC

Thurs, Feb 5 – Django Bar, Sydney, NSW

Thanks for your kind attention

River Mirror Reviews and Upcoming French Release/Tour

April 30, 2014

Infinity Broke’s debut album River Mirrors is due out soon on Beast Records in France  and will be followed by a French tour in late July/early August. In the meantime here’s a bunch of reviews for River Mirrors. Also note our Australian tour dates.

Sydney Morning Herald CD OF THE WEEK:

RIVER MIRRORS (Come to the Dark Side Luke/MGM)

Jamie Hutchings, once of Bluebottle Kiss, has been making compelling and exciting intimate records under his own name in recent years. Infinity Broke, though, is a chance for him to again tap into the dynamics and combustion of a group, to see what can come of letting things run free. With brother Scott, Reuben Wills and another BBK veteran in Jared Harrison, Hutchings can slide along in a loose groove that encounters a storm(Gallows Queue) or a desert shower (Napoleon Aged Three), or bring an intuitively, if partially hidden, pop-with-drunks-chorus sense (No Mirrors Here) and make it work. But this band can also mix Television and the Drones (the 11-minute Monsoon) and loom ominously over you (Sinless). Bernard Zuel

With his band Bluebottle Kiss, Jamie Hutchings has made some classic Australian albums (see 2002’s Revenge is Slow for starters). Lately he’s been in quieter solo mode but with his new band Infinity Broke he takes up the electric guitar again (a Jazzmaster, I am guessing by its biting sound). River Mirrors has the same razor-wire intensity of Bluebottle Kiss, propelled by Hutchings’s trademark angular guitar exclamations. The album was also recorded in a shearing shed in the NSW central west, and you can certainly feel all that corrugated iron in the music. It’s a very rhythmical kind of record too, aided by the supple bass of Reuben Wills and the two percussionists, Jared Harrison and Hutchings’s brother Scott. That’s there on the opening Gallows Queue, with its steady floor-tom shimmy and scene-setting lyrics (‘I’ve accumulated for myself so much trouble that it’s high time I be declared debt free”). All feels calm until Hutchings lets rip with the guitar and whammy bar, howling in a manner which would have upset the farm dogs at quite a distance. Monsoon uses a Krautrock motoric rhythm as the setting for more speaker destruction. Fans of bands from Can to The Drones will approve.  ****

When You’re Dealing With Infinity Anything Is Pozible

November 10, 2013

Dear Comrades,

Again, thanks to all of you have got on board our Pozible crowd funding campaign to get the Infinity Broke – River Mirrors album out next year. Also if you came down to our show at Black Wire last Friday night thanks for putting up with my stench. So far with what’s been pledged we’ll be able to get the album manufactured onto cd as well as 180gm vinyl. Nice. With what’s trickling in we’re getting close to covering mastering as well. However we’d love it if those beyond this incredibly discerning listening circle you belong to could hear the album when it comes out. So, we’re hoping to keep raising funds to cover publicity and advertising costs. There’s still time left so we’ve decided to release some new pledges.

Given how popular the limited edition CDR’s were when we launched this (the whole lot sold out in two days) we have decided to launch a new CDR treat.

(compiled from live shows and radio live sessions – none of these recordings have been available previously and will be available as a full length CDR one off).

Again, these are extremely limited. We’ve bundled them up in four different formats –

 –  Infinity Broke – River Mirrors signed cd

+ Bluebottle Kiss CDR 1999 – 2007 live limited edition album  –  $58

 –  Infinity Broke – River Mirrors signed 180gm vinyl LP ( includes download)

+ Bluebottle Kiss CDR 1999 – 2007 live limited edition CDR –  $70

 – Infinity Broke – River Mirrors signed cd

+ Bluebottle Kiss CDR 1999 – 2007 live limited edition album

+ limited edition Infinity Broke t – shirt (let us know your size) – $85

–  Infinity Broke – River Mirrors signed 180gm vinyl LP (ncludes download)

+ Bluebottle Kiss CDR 1999 – 2007 live limited edition album

+ limited edition Infinty Broke t-shirt (let us know your size) – $95

to check this out go to our Pozible Headquarters

October 16, 2013

Dear Friends

As I may have informed you, myself, Jared, Reuben and Scott have named our next phase/band Infinity Broke. We have lots of news, firstly –

Yes that’s right. We need your help. The album ‘River Mirrors’ is recorded and mixed however we need to fund the pressing on C.D and vinyl (yes) plus mastering, publicity and on it goes. Never fear though, it’s not money for nothing! We have 59 days to raise $5000. You can pledge anything from a little to a lot, the pledges start at C.D and vinyl versions of the new album all the way through to t-shirts, pseudo box-sets, one-off unreleased recordings on lovingly burnt CDR, live performances in your lounge room, the list goes on, it’s really stretched our collective imaginations! Please pass this on to your friends, loved ones, parents and pets. It will really help. Just go  here

This is the first taste of the new album. Because we trust you so much you can ‘pay what you want’. This is available for download on Bandcamp and it comes with an exclusive non-album one-man-band four track recording as a b-side called ‘Slaughterhouse Jive’ for all you Vonnegut nuts. Find it here

This seems as good an excuse as any for a live performance. This is our first show under the ‘Infinity Broke’ moniker and a chance for you to get a look in on the new album. Great lineup, good price and you can bring your own beer if you want to.

I will post the starting times once I know them but yes, it will be at night time.

We have a facebook page and an event there too.

x JH

INFINITY BROKE: Gig/Album News etc

Infinity Broke by Justin Blessas

Infinity Broke by Justin Blessas

Some of you may have witnessed the odd sporadic appearance of ‘Jamie Hutchings and the Goldfish Memories’. We’ve decided to rename the band ‘Infinity Broke’. Our album is mixed and ready to be mastered and will be released next year once we work out all the release stuff…we have a Facebook profile here:

We’ll be putting a downloadable single out in a little while and to celebrate it we’ll be playing a show. It’s a way off but it’s going to be a lot of fun. Black Wire, is a not for profit record store/performance space and is also BYO so it’ll be informal, loose and fun.

Fri 1st November

Black Wire Records

219 Parramatta Rd, Annandale NSW

Infinity Broke

+ Ted Danson With Wolves

+ Trent Marden Ich (The Holy Soul)

$12 BYO

We’ll have news about the single soon. Excitement.

With all this excitement, I felt it was time the website got an update. Mark has applied some spit and polish and you can check it all out while you’re paying us a visit. The idea is it’s a one-stop shop for all my musical endeavours past and present. Unfortunately, the old Bluebottle Kiss website is pretty much a graveyard. Since Bluebottle Kiss is now defunct, the website is no longer being updated. If you have queries regarding solo stuff, Infinity Broke stuff or Bluebottle Kiss stuff (though be aware Bluebottle has been inactive since 2007) drop me a line at  jamie[at]bluebottlekiss[dot]com

That is all.
