Recording News

Recording

Back in December Reuben Wills and myself went back to the site of the Infinity Broke recordings and started work on my next solo album. Just myself on acoustic guitar and vocals and Reuben on double bass. Chris McGirr who kindly lent us his big beautiful shed in Mount Rankin did so again, he even pressed the record button for us and cooked us breakfast one day too. He’s one of the best.

I bought an old 16 track half inch recorder, some tape and borrowed some microphones and so forth from Chris Colquhoun. This will be my first completely self recorded album, I’ll keep you posted on its progress.

The Tall Grass album keeps inching away as well – Peter and I have played most of the instruments ourselves on this. My brother thinks it has an ’80’s Australiana feel, he means that it in a good way! We feel we’ve written some great songs together. It’s been recorded by Richard Andrew in Melbourne with Peter adding some of our overdubs up here. Richard also plays some drums and bass on it and the lovely Laura Jean has been sweetening things up a bit with her vocals. Again, we’ll keep you posted.

Goodbye Amanda/Bookings

I don’t really know what heading to write here. R.I.P always feels like such a sad cliche but in terrible news my long term booking agent and chief champion Amanda Case has passed away after succumbing to an extremely aggressive form of cancer. I have posted a detailed tribute to her here https://www.facebook.com/JamieHutchingsMusic/posts/10153860053263094
Amanda was a true godsend to me, she was so encouraging and worked so hard, all of the while living in far off America. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew who and worked with her.
For those interested in getting in contact with me about bookings for any of my projects from hereon just contact me here direct.

Hello

INFINITY BROKE

No real news here but we did get a sweet live review for our Brighton Up Bar show in The Music, courtesy of Chris Familton. You can read it HERE

We still like our last album Before Before, if you don’t own it we’d be happy to change that by selling one to you on vinyl, CD or download. Do that HERE

THE TALL GRASS

Peter Fenton and myself are slowly chipping away at our album. As my brain is drowning in some horrible cough infested cloud I can’t do it any justice with a description today. I can tell you we are playing in November though, at The Gasoline Pony. We had fun last time there, it will be a similar chain of events – a solo set each followed by a twosome set.

INFINITY BROKE FRI OCT 2ND IN SYDNEY

September 23, 2015

Eye

Yes, we’re back after falling into a coma over winter. Our second album Before Before came out in April, people wrote lots of good things about it etc (and you can buy it here if you want http://www.infinitybroke.bandcamp) but we haven’t played since our tour in May. Some of you may remember that Jared wasn’t available so we were lucky enough to have Hugh Deacon on drums but Hugh is busy now so we’ve got Jared back again, double the Spinal Tap luck. Anyway this looks to be the only show we’re going to be doing this year from what I can work out so buy a ticket from the link below.

There are only 100 tickets available and we have two other excellent acts on the bill: Day Ravies and Roadhouses.

Details are – Friday Oct 2nd

Hello.

Some of you will remember I did a brief solo tour in January to celebrate 20 years of careering through the wilderness. The set list was a fairly exhaustive overview and it was surprisingly enjoyable to revisit many of those old songs.

The last show of the tour was at The Camelot Lounge in Marrickville .They have kindly requested I give it a second go.

It will be on Thursday August 27th with doors at 7pm.

I’ll be trawling through old, not so old and not old at all songs, a bit like last time but different and stuff. To make the night a bit more granderer my talented sister Sophie Hutchings will be doing an opening set accompanied by cellist Peter Hollo. Sophie and me haven’t shared a bill in ages so I’m stoked to have her involved. She is currently working on the final touches of her third album.

If you buy a ticket in advance you’ll save a few bucks, last time the pre-sales sold out in the downstairs bar Django which is why I ended up playing Camelot.

I’m encouraging requests in advance if you want to add them to the comments page of the Facebook event. If there’s any songs I haven’t played for a while that people are burning for I’ll give them a go if I know advance.

Tickets are here

BEFORE BEFORE LAUNCH TOUR

Dear Friends

The Infinity Broke tour for Before Before starts next week so we wanted to send you out a reminder. We have Hugh Deacon on drums and he is heading overseas for two months the day after our tour so who knows when we’ll play again?

For all of you generous souls who got onboard the Pozible crowd funding campaign – your packs are on their way. They went to the post office today, a crazy day of packing was had, make sure you check the contents of your pack, we got a little delirious.

You can now buy Before Before on CD,Vinyl and digital from our Bandcamp store and it will ship out pretty quickly, grab copies HERE

If you’re after the vinyl, a quiet word…it is extremely limited. It was extremely limited to begin with but due to some damage issues in transit it’s ended up being an extra extra limited pressing so best to grab one if you’re keen sooner rather than later. We will have them on tour with us as well as some new t-shirts. We will try and get some vinyl into stores soonish too.

Here are the tour dates with links for tickets.

2SER SERVIN’ UP

The many fans of indie cult faves Bluebottle Kiss will already know this, but if you’re into The Drones and don’t know where to turn while waiting for something new from them, look no further than Infinity Broke. The Sydney band led by Jamie Hutchings – already known for carving a singular path with his rock ways in Bluebottle Kiss – is back with a second album, Before Before. Their swingin’ and stompin’ blues-hued rock is matched by the passion play in Hutchings’ poetic lyrics, some angular art-damage and some sweet gospel touches. It’s an excellent follow-up to the debut River Mirrors, riffing on similar energy but even more streamlined, working open-faced and in the raw.

ROLLING STONE

3  1/2 stars

“Jamie Hutchings has always been good at catharsis. Despite six albums with Sydney cult-heroes Bluebottle Kiss and three solo records, he again sounds inspired with Infinity Broke: the blistering Before Before comes just a year after the four-piece’s excellent debut River Mirror. Recorded live in a NSW country shed, Before Before evokes that setting’s rural isolation: the roaring “Famine of Words” elicits white-knuckle night drives; “Dog Fall” melds colossal metal riffs with blistered blues and a make-do choir. Like fellow noise-wringers the Drones, Infinity Broke conjure savage terrain both domestic and emotional by locating the sting in words and guitars.”    Marcus Teague Check out the review HERE

Jamie solo shot Wesley Anne

Yes, I will be celebrating 20 years of careering through the wilderness with my solo tour starting this week. Join me on this fateful odyssey as I dig out songs from every known album I have inflicted on the public. That’s six Bluebottle Kiss albums, three solo album and soon to be two Infinity Broke albums. Just so you know.

Tickets have been moving swiftly which is nice, I look forward to seeing you at one of the below dates. These rooms are little, designed for solo type things like this so it’s worth grabbing a ticket in advance.
