HUTCHINGS UPDATE

February 3, 2020

Welcome to February everyone

Firstly thanks to everyone who purchased Bandcamp stuff from me in January. It all went to the NSW Rural Fire Service, around $200, not a fortune but more than I could afford to donate off my own bat!

People bought from all four sites Jamie HutchingsInfinity BrokeThe Tall Grass and Bluebottle Kiss. Any future proceeds will again start to go directly to me, my collaborators and our ongoing musical pursuits, ‘cuz we need it too.

ONE GIG – SUNDAY FEB 9TH, PBC IN MARRICKVILLE.

If you’re in Sydney I am doing a show on Sunday Feb 9th, so that’s not much more than a week away. It’s the only show I have happening so far this year so I’d love to see you there. I’ll be playing solo, with Reuben Wills on double bass and Mark Moldre will be joining us on electric guitar for a few songs so the degree of quality will be high. Details below –

Jamie Hutchings with special guests Mark Moldre and Simone East
Feb 9th, Petersham Bowling Club (downstairs).
Doors at 5:30 pm, tickets HERE
Facebook link HERE

Apart from that the next few months I’ll be concentrating on rehearsing and recording the next Infinity Broke album, we are booked to record it in April. I’ll keep you posted on that. Also my brother Scott and I will be recording with Melbourne artist Dimitra Bucolo later this month, here is some of Dimitra’s past work with Aux Assembly .

I’ll also be playing as part of Mark Moldre’s band at the National Folk Festival in April.

Thanks for continuing to humour me.

Welcome To 2020

January 11, 2020

Greetings all

Welcome to 2020. As you know Australia is very much on fire in a bad way at the moment so the first thing I should let you know is that I’m donating all my Bandcamp sales for January to the NSW Rural Fire Service. That’s all four sites, here’s the links and thanks to you who have jumped in. LPs, CDs, downloads whatever floats your boat.

Jamie Hutchings
Bluebottle Kiss
Infinity Broke
The Tall Grass

SYDNEY GIG ALERT

My friend Mark Moldre had to cancel his spot as special guest on my King Hits tour due to circumstances way beyond his control late last year so we’re doing just one show together. He’ll hop up with me for a few and we’ll both have Reuben Wills on double bass with us. Only fifty seats at this one so tickets are linked below.

Sunday Feb 9th @ The Petersham Bowling Club (downstairs). Doors at 5:30pm.

Apart from that Infinity Broke, now in reduced staff mode (Jamie, Scott and Reuben) are busy getting our songs ready and scouting out the best way to record them. When Scott and I were teenagers we often feuded over the one drumkit so we’ll be doing the same kind of thing with all the percussion parts here. Will keep you in the loop on this. My sentences in this post are way way too long, oh well.

2019 END OF YEAR WRAP

December 7, 2019

Dear groovers

I hope 2019 saw everything go okay for you. My big musical achievements for the year were releasing my first live album King Hits And Goldfish Memories (LPs all solo out but available for download at my Bandcamp site at the bottom of this newsletter) and also seeing Mark Moldre’s excellent third solo album ‘Fever Dreams’ (which I produced and played on) get some great responses. Mark’s album is available HERE – and free postage Australia-wide for the month of December from Mark’s Bandcamp.

Thanks to all of you who came out to the King Hits And Goldfish Memories shows, I do greatly appreciate it. Reuben and I did a couple of radio things which included some decent live recordings as well as the usual chatting.

We played on Paul Gough’s 1-2-3-4 podcast, two live songs and an expansive interview. You can listen to it HERE

Also did Vital Bits on RRR in Melbourne which you can listen to HERE

If you’re after some holiday listening please do a bit of shopping at one of my Bandcamp sites, I’m always happy to pack LPs and CDs into a mailbox.

The sites are:
JAMIE HUTCHINGS
THE TALL GRASS
INFINITY BROKE
BLUEBOTTLE KISS

I’m selling a handful of Bluebottle Kiss ‘Patient’ posters on the Bluebottle Kiss Bandcamp site, but they may be gone by the time this hits, but just so you know.

Writing songs and hopefully getting back to working on Infinity Broke material with Scott and Reuben (no Jared..sob…)
See you in 2020

King Hits & Goldfish Memories Tour Dates

September 1, 2019

Dear Friends
Springtime in Sydney is upon us. Here is my latest music news:

KING HITS AND GOLDFISH MEMORIES LP – LAST COPIES

Thanks to all of you who bought my limited live LP with the above title. Thanks for the feedback and posts regarding it as well, it’s pretty close to sold out. It’s the smallest vinyl pressing I’ve done so far and there won’t be another so if you’d like one, then grab one of the last copies HERE
Details on the tour to accompany are at the end of this email.

MARK MOLDRE ALBUM LAUNCH

Mark’s third solo album and his first in six years is being launched this Thursday in Sydney. It’s the only full band show we’re doing. The album is called Fever Dreams and has been getting some amazing press. It features a mini version of Infinity Broke as it’s backing band (Reuben Wills on double bass, Scott Hutchings on drums and myself on electric guitar, percussion, production and a couple of co-writes) plus Adam ‘the wizard’ on lap steel and banjo. It’s a great record, we have a crack at country, blues, jazz, psychedelic rock and even a bit of old school reggae on this one, all through a ramshackle Basement Tapes like filter. Details below –

NEW LIVE ALBUM & TOUR

August 11, 2019

My new live LP King Hits And Goldfish Memories is now available for your listening and buying pleasure. I’ll paste the basic blurb at the end of this if you want to hear me blather a little more but in short…it was recorded live at The Camelot Lounge in Marrickville on November 1st 2018. Ten songs taken from two sets. It’s myself on mostly acoustic guitar and vocal, nobody else on stage to improve things. The track listing is:

Here Comes The Frost
So Slow
Invisible Coat
Monsoon
Ounce Of Your Cruelty
An Arm Wrestle With A Train
December Park
White Rider
Smother It In Honey
Above The Rain

I’ve also had my first ever solo t-shirt printed up, it’s a drawing by myself that appears on the back cover of the LP and it’s available as a special package either with the LP or in another package which includes the Bedsit LP. There are only 106 copies of this LP in existence and you get a CD of the album as well packed inside. As I type there’s around 25 or so left and only six t-shirts left. If you’d like to own one just head to BANDCAMP and I will mail one to you. All LPs are signed and numbered. Straight to you from me with much love and appreciation.

No release would be complete without a run of shows. As you can see by the track listing I’m covering all eras here, it’s also the last solo tour I’ll be doing for the foreseeable future as I concentrate on other musical stuff.

Would love to see you there, as a bonus I’m bringing along my good friend Mark Moldre as the support. Mark has just released his long awaited third solo album Fever Dreams. It’s a fantastic album and has had some great raves so far. I’m proud of my involvement in it’s production and guitaring. Reuben Wills played double bass on Mark’s album so he’ll be joining us and we’ll all be playing on each other’s songs. Fine fine times.

Here’s the details, grab a ticket in advance so we can feel your love.

Here’s a the back story below. I remain your humble servant – JH x

King Hits And Goldfish Memories is my fifth solo release, and my first ever official live album. If I’m not moving forwards then I at least hope to move sideways in regards to my output. This album is a sideways move – a diversion, a chance to compile and compress my now fairly sizeable catalogue whilst I work out what’s next. On King Hits I take these songs back to where they started – with me, a guitar and my capricious voice.

Some of these are radically reshaped – Monsoon when performed by Infinity Broke is a hypnotic, noisy ten minute beast. The version here is the first time I ever did it solo, it becomes a loose, swamp soaked narrative that surprises even me. Ounce Of Your Cruelty was possibly the closest Bluebottle Kiss ever came to a hit. On this version I’m reminded of it’s conception, of sitting on a bed with a cheap acoustic guitar and writing it in about ten minutes and knowing I didn’t need to spend a minute more.

I love live solo acoustic albums – Townes Van Zant’s Live At The Old Quarter, Neil Young At Massey Hall, Mark Eitzel’s Songs Of Love. I compared these albums to mine sonically when fine tuning the final mixes, this was of course a silly idea.

King Hits And Goldfish Memories was recorded at The Camelot Lounge by the front of house engineer on the night, it was mixed by my friend Darren Cross in his lounge room. It’s a casual affair, limited to only 100 copies on vinyl plus an accompanying CD, or in the digital/streaming world.

Whether as an introduction or as a bunch of reinterpretations I believe it’s worthy of your ears. King Hits And Goldfish Memories is available on limited edition 12”, 100 hand numbered and signed copies are available in three different packages on Bandcamp. It’s also available on digital download and all streaming platforms.

Preorders are available with shipping and streaming taking place on August 14th, 2019. Preorder at BANDCAMP

KING HITS AND GOLDFISH MEMORIES

June 29, 2019

Welcome to Winter, in Australia at least. I’ve desisted from sending an update for a while as I’ve been putting together the release of my first official live album. I’m letting all of you know about this first as I’m only putting out 100 copies of this on 12″ vinyl. Each LP will come with a slip case CD and will be lovingly hand numbered and signed by yours truly. The album is called King Hits And Goldfish Memories, it was recorded in one night over two sets at The Camelot Lounge in Marrickville on November 1st 2018. You may well have been there.

These are in manufacture as I type so rather than crowd fund this exercise I am keeping it relatively simple by making it available to be purchased as a pre-sale. The album will ship on August 14th 2019 or earlier if I get it earlier. Your pre-ordering it will of course make the funding of it a possibility and will ensure you don’t miss out given it’s limited availability.
I have made it available in three pre-order packages.
1. LP/CD + Teeshirt (my first ever solo tee designed by me)2. LP/CD + Bedsit LP + Teeshirt3. LP/CD

Go here to pre-order/get details

I will announce tour dates as soon as I have them all together. They will be happening in late October through until November.
In the short term The Tall Grass (Peter Fenton and myself) play Moshpit, Newtown next week Fri Jul 5th, it’ll be fun. Details here

Praise for Bedsit, Jamie Hutchings last solo album

“’Opener Second Winter acts as a good litmus test: if you’re entranced by a seven-minute song that begins with a Kafkaesque short story, then you’re definitely in the headspace for what’s to come. It’s a gorgeously intimate work, with Hutchings’s voice cracking with emotion and blue notes in what sounds like a series of first takes…’”
Andrew P Street, The Australian (Mar 31, 2018)

“’Bedsit is a challenging listen, as fragile and introspective as it is darkly humorous, but those who invest the time in unpacking its intricacies will be richly rewarded.’”
Daniel Johnson, The Courier Mail (May 06, 2018)

“Hutchings has played in several bands of note, to reasonable success – the fierce and flexible Blue Bottle Kiss, Infinity Broke (with Wills, brother Scott Hutchings and BBK member Jared Harrison), The Tall Grass (with Peter Fenton, of Crow) – but to my mind he is at his best in solo mode, and has rarely been better than here.’”
Bernard Zuel, Bernardzuel.net (Apr 24, 2018)

“Bedsit is up there with the best music that Jamie Hutchings has made throughout the many years he has been making music. Despite the sparseness of the backing it’s strangely one of the most accessible and rewarding set of songs we’ve so far heard from this singer-songwriter. “
Malcolm Carter, Penny Black Music UK (Apr 20, 2019)

BEDSIT FOR PEACER TOUR

February 6, 2019

I’m teaming up with Darren Cross, who I’ve known since the mid nineties when Gerling were on the up and shared the stage with Bluebottle Kiss a number of times. These days Darren performs solo as well as in the duo Jep and Dep. Darren’s latest album is called Peacer whilst mine is called Bedsit. As John and Yoko did their famous Bed In For Peace protest many decades ago we thought we’d have some fun with that…check out the tour poster (courtesy of Mr Cross). Anyway we’re playing all over NSW with some towns I’ve never played before, I’d love to see you there. Here are the dates and ticket/info links:
