A NEW

October 2, 2023

Hello

Welcome to October. If you’re in Sydney then (like me) you are melting. Here are some bits and pieces of substantial JH music related news.

NEW ALBUM – A NEW

A New comes out officially on Oct 13th, and will be available on LP/CD/digital. At the moment, the first single Roustabout is doing the rounds. Of the single, Backseat Mafia kindly wrote ‘There is a Jimmy Webb grandeur as expressed through Glen Campbell in the instrumentation and delivery, Hutchings’s vocal less acerbic and barbed-wire than in his other bands but nonetheless just as soaked in aged barrels of whiskey and regret…there is certainly a majestic sixties timbre to the track with its big pounding drums and dramatic delivery, all beehive hairdos and kohl eyeliner’. You can read the whole review here.

Roustabout is a good introduction to the album, so if you’re drawn in, I believe you’ll enjoy the whole shebang. It’s a unique record in that it’s mostly me on everything with Tim Kevin engineering myself on mixing, and Mikey Young on mastering. I was able to recruit some talented guests such as Clare Moore on vibraphone, my father Lee Hutchings and Danny Carmichael on horns, Jeanne Poisson and Leanne Clarey on BVs and Tim Kevin on piano. They definitely added some rich fairy dust to proceedings.

Head to my Bandcamp on Oct 13th to get a copy, or you can get it at selected record stores. A word of warning, I don’t have a great deal left, particularly on vinyl due to the crowd funding campaign, so bear that in mind.

Full tour dates for the album will be revealed later in the year and will be taking place over late January – early February. However, I am launching it in Perth at the end of this month. I’ll play a large cross section of material and it’s a very cozy venue so make sure you grab a ticket.

Oct 28th – PERTH – Jamie Hutchings w/ special guest Catherine Traicos at Vinyl Cafe. Tickets HERE

INFINITY BROKE

IB have been getting together sporadically with new recruit Tyrone Stevens on percussion and drums. We’re looking forward to debuting this lineup at the show below. It’s an excellent bill with two of our favourite Sydney bands. We’ll play a couple of newbies as well.

Sun Oct 15th at Petersham Bowling Club – Infinity Broke + The Holy + Restless Leg

MARK MOLDRE

Mark Moldre’s full band, which includes Scott, Reuben and myself from Infinity Broke have a show on November 10th. Getting this band together is even harder than Infinity Broke, so if you like Mark’s stuff, and you should, the details are below.

Sat Nov 11th at Moshpit, Newtown – Looch Lewis and the Press Gangsters + Mark Moldre + Peta & Jill

Tickets here
