NEW LIVE ALBUM & TOUR

August 11, 2019

My new live LP King Hits And Goldfish Memories is now available for your listening and buying pleasure. I’ll paste the basic blurb at the end of this if you want to hear me blather a little more but in short…it was recorded live at The Camelot Lounge in Marrickville on November 1st 2018. Ten songs taken from two sets. It’s myself on mostly acoustic guitar and vocal, nobody else on stage to improve things. The track listing is:

Here Comes The Frost
So Slow
Invisible Coat
Monsoon
Ounce Of Your Cruelty
An Arm Wrestle With A Train
December Park
White Rider
Smother It In Honey
Above The Rain

I’ve also had my first ever solo t-shirt printed up, it’s a drawing by myself that appears on the back cover of the LP and it’s available as a special package either with the LP or in another package which includes the Bedsit LP. There are only 106 copies of this LP in existence and you get a CD of the album as well packed inside. As I type there’s around 25 or so left and only six t-shirts left. If you’d like to own one just head to BANDCAMP and I will mail one to you. All LPs are signed and numbered. Straight to you from me with much love and appreciation.

No release would be complete without a run of shows. As you can see by the track listing I’m covering all eras here, it’s also the last solo tour I’ll be doing for the foreseeable future as I concentrate on other musical stuff.

Would love to see you there, as a bonus I’m bringing along my good friend Mark Moldre as the support. Mark has just released his long awaited third solo album Fever Dreams. It’s a fantastic album and has had some great raves so far. I’m proud of my involvement in it’s production and guitaring. Reuben Wills played double bass on Mark’s album so he’ll be joining us and we’ll all be playing on each other’s songs. Fine fine times.

Here’s the details, grab a ticket in advance so we can feel your love.

Here’s a the back story below. I remain your humble servant – JH x

King Hits And Goldfish Memories is my fifth solo release, and my first ever official live album. If I’m not moving forwards then I at least hope to move sideways in regards to my output. This album is a sideways move – a diversion, a chance to compile and compress my now fairly sizeable catalogue whilst I work out what’s next. On King Hits I take these songs back to where they started – with me, a guitar and my capricious voice.

Some of these are radically reshaped – Monsoon when performed by Infinity Broke is a hypnotic, noisy ten minute beast. The version here is the first time I ever did it solo, it becomes a loose, swamp soaked narrative that surprises even me. Ounce Of Your Cruelty was possibly the closest Bluebottle Kiss ever came to a hit. On this version I’m reminded of it’s conception, of sitting on a bed with a cheap acoustic guitar and writing it in about ten minutes and knowing I didn’t need to spend a minute more.

I love live solo acoustic albums – Townes Van Zant’s Live At The Old Quarter, Neil Young At Massey Hall, Mark Eitzel’s Songs Of Love. I compared these albums to mine sonically when fine tuning the final mixes, this was of course a silly idea.

King Hits And Goldfish Memories was recorded at The Camelot Lounge by the front of house engineer on the night, it was mixed by my friend Darren Cross in his lounge room. It’s a casual affair, limited to only 100 copies on vinyl plus an accompanying CD, or in the digital/streaming world.

Whether as an introduction or as a bunch of reinterpretations I believe it’s worthy of your ears. King Hits And Goldfish Memories is available on limited edition 12”, 100 hand numbered and signed copies are available in three different packages on Bandcamp. It’s also available on digital download and all streaming platforms.

Preorders are available with shipping and streaming taking place on August 14th, 2019. Preorder at BANDCAMP
