2SER SERVIN’ UP
The many fans of indie cult faves Bluebottle Kiss will already know this, but if you’re into The Drones and don’t know where to turn while waiting for something new from them, look no further than Infinity Broke. The Sydney band led by Jamie Hutchings – already known for carving a singular path with his rock ways in Bluebottle Kiss – is back with a second album, Before Before. Their swingin’ and stompin’ blues-hued rock is matched by the passion play in Hutchings’ poetic lyrics, some angular art-damage and some sweet gospel touches. It’s an excellent follow-up to the debut River Mirrors, riffing on similar energy but even more streamlined, working open-faced and in the raw.
ROLLING STONE
3 1/2 stars
“Jamie Hutchings has always been good at catharsis. Despite six albums with Sydney cult-heroes Bluebottle Kiss and three solo records, he again sounds inspired with Infinity Broke: the blistering Before Before comes just a year after the four-piece’s excellent debut River Mirror. Recorded live in a NSW country shed, Before Before evokes that setting’s rural isolation: the roaring “Famine of Words” elicits white-knuckle night drives; “Dog Fall” melds colossal metal riffs with blistered blues and a make-do choir. Like fellow noise-wringers the Drones, Infinity Broke conjure savage terrain both domestic and emotional by locating the sting in words and guitars.” Marcus Teague Check out the review HERE
